I'll be honest, Loveland had me at the fact that its post office reroutes hundreds of thousands of Valentine cards through town every February just so they get stamped Sweetheart City. That's not a marketing gimmick, that's just how seriously this town takes its personality. Walk the loop around Lake Loveland at golden hour, grab a pint at Verboten Brewing or Crow Hop, then wander past bronze sculptures parked on random downtown corners like it's no big deal (small detail: Loveland is basically the sculpture capital of Colorado, and nobody here even brags about it).

Head west and the vibe turns into foothill living fast: red rock hogbacks, golf courses, and the Big Thompson River right there, with the Devil's Backbone trailhead practically in your backyard. Head east into Centerra and you get new construction, a private lake, and a full medical campus close enough that you never think about it until you need it. Wherever you land, you're close to Rocky Mountain National Park, close to Fort Collins, and close to Denver, without actually living in the middle of any of them.

Loveland At A Glance

  • Where it is: Larimer County, between Fort Collins to the north and Berthoud and Longmont to the south, about 45 miles north of Denver.
  • Commute cheat sheet: Fort Collins (15-20 min), Longmont (20-25 min), Boulder (40-45 min), Denver (50-60 min), DIA (50-60 min).
  • Getting around without a car: City of Loveland Transit (COLT) local routes, the FLEX regional bus linking Fort Collins to Boulder, and the Bustang North Line express to Denver Union Station.
  • The vibe: Artsy, active, and refreshingly unpretentious: sculpture gardens, craft breweries, and a lake everybody actually uses.

  • Loveland Classical Schools: Tuition-free K-12 classical charter focused on traditional liberal arts, Socratic discussion, and Latin.
  • New Vision Charter School: Core Knowledge K-8 charter with strong foundational academics and STEM electives.
  • High Plains School: PK-8 in Centerra focused on environmental science and expeditionary STEM projects.
  • Resurrection Christian School: Private Christian PK-12 college-prep school on the Loveland and Fort Collins border, with elite athletics.

Loveland backs up the postmark: it's a genuinely good place to raise a family, walk to a brewery, and still be 45 minutes from a Broncos game. If you want the real scoop on which pocket fits your life, that's a phone call, not a paragraph.
