Englewood is the neighborhood people move to when they want South Denver living without the South Denver price tag. It has its own city government, its own school district (separate from both Denver Public Schools and Cherry Creek), two light rail stations, and a walkable downtown corridor that has quietly become one of the better dining and brewery strips in the metro.

It is small (about 6.5 square miles) and sits directly south of Denver proper, bordered by Sheridan to the west and Cherry Hills Village to the east. That size is part of the appeal. You can get from one side of town to the other in ten minutes, and CityCenter Englewood puts a grocery store, movie theater, and light rail stop all within a few blocks of most of the housing stock.

• Food and drink: South Broadway's Antique Row has turned into a legitimate food and brewery corridor. CityCenter adds a movie theater and chain options for easy nights out.
